Submission + - Amazon Web Services to plant cloud in Australia?->

lukehopewell1 writes: "Rumours are circling in Australia over the if and when Amazon Web Services will ever open a datacentre Down Under. Amazon Web Services' local managing director said today that the company has been fielding calls left, right and centre from customers keen to see a local datacentre, and the plan has the blessing of local analysts as well.

One analyst however has pointed out that if Amazon Web Services were to be opened Down Under, Australian data would be subject to the long reach of the US Patriot Act, meaning that a government on the other side of the world would be able to view sensitive data stored by Australians."
