red$hirt writes "I have a few friends, plus my girlfriend, who I would like to introduce to Star Trek. They do have a general interest to watch it, but I'm not sure what's the best way to start. There are so many series and movies and I would like to pick an order that keeps them interested in the whole think, it should make them wanna watch more. My first idea is to start off with a few good TNG episodes, including the Borg vs. Picard ones, and then let them watch First Contact. What does Slashdot think? I'm sure some of you have introduced others to Star Trek before. How did you do it, and how successful were you? Which particular episodes would you recommend watching for someone who is completely new to all this?

TOS: City on the Edge of Forever, Trouble With Tribbles
TNG: Measure of a Man, Parallels, any Q episode after the first one.
VOY: Can't recall the name, but the one where a race finds a backup copy of the Doctor and activates it, and he discovers that the race thought Voyager was a warship filled with psychopathic war criminals.
DS9, ENT: just say no.

Adding to the above list:
DS9 has one good episode, Trials and Tribble-ations.
VOY: All of their Q episodes, Year of Hell (ship that wipes things from space-time), Species 8472 and introduction of 7 of 9 episodes. The doctor episode is Living Witness
ENT: If they have watched First Contact, then they should see the ENT episode where the crew finds frozen Borg that came back during the First Contact events.
