Is it just me, or are most people not having real friends anymore, it's all about having the highest number of fake virtual friends, likes, ratings and all that gamified nonsense that's not worth anything of real human value?
No, people are pushed into this. Don't blame the kids.
We got, sadly, physical proof that if you raise children in a lightlesd basement, naked, on the floor, eating out of dog bowls, they will think that's just normal and never wonder if that may be weird. (I still remember the pictures from Romania.)
The main problem with people nowadays... us too... is an extremely exaggerated anxiety. Everyone is constantly afraid of everything. That is why some people hate foreigners, gays, whatever. Why they want to "conserve" everything and prevent any change and become all nostalgic. Or hde in minimalism. It is why SJWs exist too. (*They* are the ones "finding" hate in literally all the things.) It's why people buy iPhones ("Computers overwhelm me."), fixie bicycles (ditto but for gears and part of minimalism), SUVs (civilian tanks, basically. makebelieve tanks, if you look at the crash tests), etc. And why people want to eradicate "hate" online. (Instead of being an actual grown up and hence not affected by some ramdom idiots saying stupid lies, or dealing with it, if it is true.)
It's all of us. It's a mental illness. (Defined as a mental state that one suffers under.) And a pandemic.
I still don't know where it's coming from though.
Maybe the same syndrome that medicine students get when they first become aware of all those diseases and symptomes: They constantly get scared thinking they have every disease. Maybe it's just the amount of information availabe now. (We're not made for the Internet.) Or people getting actually smarter and hence becoming aware of more possible catastrophes too. Or something in our environment (e.g. a preservative, plasticiser, drug, breed of crops, pollution,...). Probably a non-trivial combination.
