Vudu and FandangoNow Merge Into a Single Streaming Service

Fandango has revealed that Vudu is merging with its parent company's own streaming service, FandangoNow, to form a single platform that'll take on Vudu's name. The change comes more than a year after it purchased the streaming platform from Walmart. New submitter echopulse writes: The new Vudu service will have more than 200,00 movies and TV shows available to buy, and many for free with ads. It will also be the official movie store for Roku devices, replacing the FandangoNow store. If you have a Fandango account, you can move your movies over to the new service by going to FandangoNow.com

You also should give it a more descriptive name (what's a "Vudu" anyway?), a name that makes it clear it's movies on the internet - how about something like Webflix?

Except Vudu and FandangoNow aren't streaming services. They're digital rental providers. Instead of offering a huge library of movies to stream while subscribed, you pay a fixed price for a movie and can watch it over and over again.

It's almost like buying a movie, but since those purchases can be rescinded at any time, it's really a rental.

A bunch of these merged because of MoviesAnywhere basically making individual services unnecessary.

So when I "buy" a movie or TV show from this service they're sending me a DVD or Bluray with the content? If not then they're only renting it to me... as soon as they fold, or change their policies, I lose access to my "purchases."

Excellent, saves me a lot of effort. Before I had to not subscribe to 2 services; now I only have to not subscribe to one.

They are not subscription services. They are pay for what you watch, and they also have a lot of free movies.
