What Vista Is Really Like

This waking dream has been making the rounds: what if you woke and found a strange and beautiful woman in your bed, and she was inscrutible, unpredictable, and dangerous... but oh so beautiful? That's Vista for you.

What a horrible analogy. If I found a beautiful woman in my bed, I'd be fine with that. The fact that she's crazy can be overlooked, since I'm just there for the fun and she can go be crazy somewhere else for the rest of the day. Beautiful only goes so far, after the hormones take a hike the personality takes over and you realize you really can't be bothered to be near all that crazy for any length of time. Applicable to people and OS's :)

The Information Bar in Internet Explorer

Just recently I encountered the monstrosity of the Information Bar in Internet Explorer for the first time (forced to use it at work).

Only Microsoft would decide to send up a pop-up to your computer screen each and every time it blocks a pop-up, to announce to you it has blocked a pop-up!

(And don't lie and respond back that the Information Bar is easily deletable. It isn't; doing so causes issues; and doing so at work requires buy-in from the boss, who won't buy it. So every time I am required to see Microsoft popups again ... and again ... and again. Aaah, it is so refreshing to come home to Linux at night.)

Beautiful, Microsoft. Having now seen a glimpse of a piece of Vista in action, I have no worries for Linux or Firefox. Free software's future is secured, because with Vista, the Microsoft stupidity simply continues ... big time.

It's not like having a pretty girl in your bed. It's more like living with the incurable social disease she passed along to you while you were getting it on.

Uuuh... in all honesty... anybody who cares about how their computer software *looks* A. has waaay to much free time on their hands and B. already uses OSX. Sorry, but most of us who use computers for work really couldn't care less if the buttons look like my ass or some shiny-chromey-cartoon. Now, go play with making your computer software pretty...

Linux, the ugly duckling of the pack, yet she loves you completely without resevervation, she doesn't want your for your money or status. She is open and honest. And if you love her you can turn her into the princes of the ball but unlike the pretty windows, the linux girl stays true to you.

Given things like Enlightenment [enlightenment.org] and Beryl [biodesign.com.ar], Linux is only as ugly as you let it be. And E (preceded by fvwm-xpm) has been around for just around 10 years now, so it's not anything new, either.

Linux is more like the geeky hot asian girl who can cosplay anything, has all the cool technology, and stays true to you.
