Something Resembling 'The Wheel of Time' Aired Last Night On FXX 54

But that appeared to die with its failed kickstarter attempt. It is suspected that Red Eagle Entertainment is behind the odd FXX airing last night. Was this an eleventh hour "use it or lose it" move by Red Eagle Entertainment without Universal's knowledge? In any case, it was a secretive, odd, low-budget, disappointing start to The Wheel of Time in film.

It was more than a simple hardware failure -- the storage cluster software we're using had an issue that not only obliterated data, but managed to take out its own repair functionality. We had proper backups and didn't lose anything permanently, but had to do a much larger rebuild than if a disk just died.

Most likely, and I'm curious how they got the rights for it. Even for the kickstarter, since the only company that currently has rights to make a game on the WoT universe is Obsidian.

They had obtained the rights years ago and were about to lose them through inactivity, so they crapped this out to maintain their rights

Obsidian? The only WoT game I know of was done by Legend Entertainment [wikipedia.org].
Despite the books being terrible, I actually really enjoyed that game. The powers and counter mechanics were very nicely done. Also the level design was awesome.

Yep, that was a fantastic shooter. Nothing out at the time (that I know of/played; someone will correct me here) really had interacting weapons like that. Turned it into a very fast-paced version of chess, plus you could lay traps in your area before a match started.

And I've always thought WoT would make a decent mini-series, since all that futz turns into action - it's far less annoying to watch those tics than to read it over and over.
My wife is the real WoT fan in the house, though - not sure if I should tell her this exists...

Yes, you were joking, however, it made a number of shocking omissions in the few minutes it actually did run. It was as if, realising they had nil for a SFX budget, they decided that Lews Therin did himself in with a knife instead of overdrawing on the source and creating Dragonmount. Also, there was no rippling of floors and walls in after-shock from him using the power to murder his entire family.
The other bits weren't that bad though. No, wait, they were. They got Ilyena "Sunhair"'s hair colour wrong.

Not everyone lives in the United States, and watches FXX (what is that Foxconn tv?) and anticipated the wheel in the sky by Journey.

Honestly, as a reader of the books I don't see whats so bad about it so far. I mean, the stuff with Lews Therin and parts before the Breaking were obviously in more modern times if you stop and think about it.

There are tons of references to modern things, existing myths, historical events etc. Many of the main character's names are derivations on famous characters from legends, many of the locations are similarly related to other locations. Rand is very much part of the Dying God/Jesus type myth (Crown of Swords, spear in the side, must die and live again to save man, will fight in the final battle). There are even references to John Glenn and the Moon Landing in one of their myths. :D

In all, I kinda like seeing the widow take the shaft on this one. She's a control freak of the most annoying kind. I quit reading the books when she refused to make the eBooks available at the same time the print books came out. Protecting the legacy my ass. I think the only reason Brandon put up with her on the last books was because there was easy money in taking what was already nearly complete and finishing it.
I truly hope that production company makes a run with it, without her consent.
