Reddit user buba447 has created an iconic Simpsons TV with working dials that plays episodes of the long-running animated sitcom whenever it's turned on. From a report: The palm-sized TV was designed in Fusion 360 and printed using an Ender-3 Pro from Creality, according to its creator. Inside you'll find a tiny Raspberry Pi Zero running Jessie Lite connected to the 640x480 display. The top dial turns on the TV (actually, just the display and speaker) while the lower dial adjusts the volume. Its 32GB SD Card is loaded with 11 seasons of compressed episodes that play in random order. The whole thing is powered by a USB port with a cable running out the back.

  • There's a company that's taken the Saturn model kit that was released a few years ago and made a custom Raspberry Pi 4 daughter board so that you can put a Pi in, complete with USB game pads plugging into the ports. Not perfect since Saturn emulation needs work, but still super cool :).
    • Oh, *SEGA* Saturn. For a minute there, I thought there was a model of a 90's automobile that you could put a raspi into...

Hopefully it's the first 11 seasons and the 11 most recent seasons. It may only be a 2" screen but at least it's better than watching the classic Simpsons 4:3 episodes cropped to 16:9 on Disney+ [vulture.com].

    • The problem is if Disney had kept it, they'd have a gazillion knuckle-draggers screaming about how they're not using the "whole screen".

    • If you'd RTFA you'd see it is the first 11 seasons. I do love that part of this story as well, the subtle swipe at the show reaffirming what everyone knows- after the 1990s the Simpsons were no longer worth watching.

  • Can't the Pi Zero take a 256 Gig microSD card? Why stop at 32 Gigs and 11 seasons?

Because he probably doesn't have the rights to these episodes and is going to wind up in prison for copyright violations already.

Wouldn't you only want the good seasons on the card if you're just playing them at random with no control?
(also you'd only want episodes from the time when the show was 4:3 to match the screen)

  • But when is the Rick and Morty TV coming out?

I want a TOS era tricorder that plays the shows.

      • My first iPhone was called Tricorder ... but you can not have it :P

      • I think the TOS would look better if played on a small CRT Display. TNG looks best on a mid-sized CRT.

The shows were filmed to play on that medium, so things actually look much better on the older displays then new HD ones. Back when you cannot see the wires, or the gaps in the sets. The show is much more believable when played on the media it was suppose to be played on.

The same thing with classic video games too. New displays have too high of a DPI, so old games are super blocky, where when played on a

A fun thing so where are the lawyers to spoil it?
11 seasons on an SD card? Pirated? Should warrant a SWAT raid and equipment seizure.
Replica TV from the series even if fair use should attract some kind of take down order.
