Star Wreck Trailer 301

ultramarweeni writes "'Star Wreck: In the Pirkinning', a very fascinating feature-length Finnish Star Trek satire is now nearing its completion. Today, December 13th, the trailer was published at 0:00 GMT after 14 hours of technical problems. Star Wreck: In the Pirkinning tells the story of the crew of P-Fleet starship C.P.P. Kickstart, which was stranded on Earth after an accident after a battle against the Korg. With the help of the technology to come, their leader, Captain Pirk claims himself as the emperor of the Earth. He conquers the world and rebuilds the P-Fleet. Star Wreck: In the Pirkinning has been in the making since 1999 and will probably be completed in spring 2004. Or maybe not. Time will tell."

Finnish is a crazy language. Apparently in Finnish "Ha ha ha" translates into "No remorse."
Also apparent is the fact that there are no black people in Finland or something, because all the black characters are just white people painted black...poorly.

Lastly, story dupes are bad enough but now topic dupes? Take a look at the icons for this story and you'll see what I mean ;)
    • Apparently in Finnish "Ha ha ha" translates into "No remorse."

There's no such word as "ha", unless it's obscure slang. "Remorse" is "katumus", so "no remorse" would be something like "ei katumus". Or maybe I'm not getting the joke ...

The subtitles were rolling a bit too fast for me. But there was something about power levels 96% (after my third viewing).

    • I dunno. I've been in a Star Trek punk band for pretty danged close to 11 years and we haven't been sued. Although Paramount did sue The Romulans, who weren't a Star Trek band, they just had that name. The Romulans won the lawsuit.

Got the trailer, got the teasers, am i missing something? This is a spoof on star trek obviously, but i didn't laugh.

It doesn't help that the whole trailer isn't in english. So that takes away from the humor for me. That, and the fact that they have really GOOD special effects in the trailer takes away from the humor.

Most spoofs i've seen are cheezy, hilarious knock-offs of the orignials with a heavy dose of humor. hell, make the actors a bit more convincing, and use real black actors, i would have taken this trailer as a trailer for a new star trek series, not a spoof.

    Anyway, analysis complete. :)

As a Finn I can tell you that the trailer isn't funny even in Finnish :). But then again, it's probably not supposed to be. Sort of a parody of the usual Bruckheimer-trailers... "THIS IS THE END OF THE WORLD" etc. etc.

Most people in the inteded audience (before the slashdotting, at least) already know what humor and the jokes are going to be like; after all, this is the group's sixth SW-production. They're just showing "this is what it will be like", and keeping all the jokes 'secret'.

    • Seeming as Finland is so overrun by dark-skinned people--97% are ethnic Swedes or Finns, with the remainder being distinctly non-african in origin, but for a few thousand Somali refugees--I think they can be forgiven for a little bit of improvising on racial representation.

Why do folks need to /. cool sites with big movies? All it does is cost them huge bucks that /. folks don't pay, and drive them offline.

Check out the recent victim -

Over this holliday weekend a very popular website called Slashdot.org put up an article about my site and provided a direct link (without my consent so I could prepare for it) to my CGI ATIS virtual ride-thru project. While this was very flattering it also turned out to be very expensive for me. On a single day on (Saturday November 30th) I received 11,000 users that downloaded 33840.220 MB worth of stuff from the site. Due to the high bandwidth used, the Atommobiles.com site was shut down and I was left with a huge $1000.00 bill to pay. I am still working out details about bandwidth issues and I am switching to a more expensive account to get the site back online. So for now, all movies will be removed from the site and the site is in danger of being taken down until these issues get resolved. I will try to keep this site online as long as I can but without the help of some donations this site might become extinct just like Adventure Thru Inner Space. A sad day for me and fans it will be, indeed.

    Barely holding on.....

    Webmaster of Atommobiles.com

Anyone interested in donating some money to the site I have a paypal link set up.
Just click the Donate button below. (Note paypal auto adds a $3.00 shipping charge to any donations so just subtract $3.00 from your donation amount that you want to send. Sorry about that. I have Paypal set up to charge $3.00 shipping to any orders and it can't be removed for the Donations.)

Thank you everyone for all your support.

A .torrent file STILL gets you hits, and as long as its live, everyone gets decent bandwith.

You could even be the seed, and just limit that invocation of bts bandwith, and the bigger "hit" you get, the more bandwith there is--And you don't pay for it for the most part, save for the seed, and tracker traffic.

Bittorrent is included in Debian and Mandrake for sure, and certainly available for all other platforms, save possibly C64, and I'm not sure

      Dear Site Owner:
There's this thing. It's called the Web. If you put things up on it, and they're interesting, people will share the link with other people. If you're putting up huge, interesting media files, at some point in your site's life, you can expect the traffic to start to rise, perhaps uncontrollably. That's why you should:
      1) Get a hosting agreement at a place with a cap on your bandwidth/monthly transfer so they can't surprise you with 4 digit bills.
      2) Think long and hard about the total size of anything you put up, particularily with a bent toward thinking "what if 1000 people decide to see this at some point?", especially since the only reason you're posting it is so that others can see it.
      3) If only your selected pals are supposed to see it, put it in a restricted area.
      4) Quit acting surprised when this type of thing happens. We've all seen the Slashdot Effect for years now, and considering the unlikely meme success of the Hamster Dance, Mahir, the Tourist Guy, AYB and more, we know that large flocks of people can descend on the most unlikely thing mercilessly.

    • You could always block access to your website where the "linked from" http header contains Slashdot.
