Black Box converts your specifications into data -- or if you didn't ask for anything specific, a blob of randomly generated numerical noise will do -- and the creation process can begin. That first collection of ones and zeros will become a prompt, and will be fed into a type of A.I. called a transformer, which will spit out the text screenplay for your movie through a process a little like the autocomplete function on your smartphone. That screenplay will then be fed into a variation on today's vector quantized variational autoencoders -- neural nets that generate music, basically -- producing chopped up little bits of sound that, when strung together, form an audio version of the spoken dialogue and sound effects in your custom movie, plus an orchestral score. Finally, in the most challenging part of the process, those 90 minutes of audio, along with the screenplay, get fed into the world's most sophisticated GAN, or generative adversarial network. Working scene by scene, the Black Box GAN would generate a cast of live action characters -- lifelike humans, or at least human-esque avatars -- built from the ground up, along with all of the settings, monsters, car chases, dogs, cats, and little surprises that make it feel like a real movie.

The summary leave out a key part of the actual article: the part where they say that this is hypothetical, not real.
"Black Box" does not exist; it is a what-if scenario.

I suppose that hypothetically, anything that doesn't violate some fundamental laws of physics or mathematics is possible. And, actually, I think that, if we, as a species, survive long enough, something like this might really come to pass. You can use AI in much of the artistic process, just not the creative process. So AI virtual robotics becomes a big thing in animation, every element is a robot, designed to act in the way expected. So for example a robot tree, that acts like a tree, in the wind, it's leaves and branches moving according to the direction and velocity of the wind and the gravity being applied to the three. People would become obvious virtual robots, you tell them where to go, what to say and what emotions are to be expressed

Sorry, I'm going to dispute this fundamental premise. I haven't seen anything of the sort. The best I've seen is a mismash of other works blended together in an unholy mess, often entertaining due to the inevitably surreal nature of the derived work. But to be blunt, there was little artistic value or worth except for the novelty of "generated by a computer."

If you're that kind of person, you can also go ahead and hype-market it right away, before you actually have anything remotely like it. There are a lot of that kind of person in tech. Hard to deliver? "Let the eggheads figure it out, after all I gave them this fine idea didn't I?"
AI generated movies remotely worth watching are at least 10 years away, and that's assuming no general collapse first.

We should just eliminate the middle man. The best audience for AI-generated movies and the like is other AI. That gives the rest of us a reprieve from all the dog poo that is being put out there, either by alleged humans, or by AI.
