Ahsoka Tano Standalone Star Wars Series Coming To Disney Plus (cnet.com) 50

Ahsoka Tano, the popular character from The Mandalorian, Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels, is finally getting her own series starring Rosario Dawson. It's set within the timeline for The Mandalorian and will debut on Disney Plus around Christmas of 2021. CNET reports: Disney revealed the news Thursday during an investor presentation, where the company also announced its plans for upcoming movie releases -- both theatrical and streaming on Disney Plus. Ahsoka made her live-action debut in The Mandalorian episode titled The Jedi. In the episode, Mando (Pedro Pascal) continues his quest to bring Baby Yoda (aka The Child) to former Jedi Ahsoka Tano in the years following Return of the Jedi. [...] Not much has been revealed as of yet about the new Ahsoka Tano live-action series for Disney Plus, but fingers crossed we get to see more characters from both Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels pop up in the new adventures. UPDATE: In addition to Star Wars: Ahsoka, Lucasfilm also announced Star Wars: Rangers of the New Republic, a new Original Series set within the timeline of The Mandalorian.

"The two series are just several of the new Star Wars shows coming to Disney Plus in the future, along with Star Wars: Andor, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Star Wars: Lando, The Acolyte, the animated Clone Wars spin-off The Bad Batch, and the anime anthology Star Wars: Visions," adds The Verge.

Speak for yourself, I'm looking forward to Star Wars: SVU. Dun Dun.
      • LOL .. hey actually a Star Wars version of Law and Order .. and every other show might be a good idea non-Star Wars show. Then again it might not.

Maybe a Star Wars version of Star Trek... hmm.

Since we know that the TIE fighters were purchased from a corporation, it stands to reason at least some portion of the Executor was allocated to Accounts Payable.

Mandalorian way, WAY, stretched out action scene, stretched to death across multiple episodes. Looks good but empty content, like dealing with a vapid blonde, what ever gender, action only gets you so far before it becomes really boring. After Jar Jar A success with action scene movies with bits of story sort of jammed in there to fail at stitching together a 'b set' effort, they apparently have gone all the way, no story at all, just a stretched out action scene and bullshit spread on the internet about ho

      • Yes the mandalorian indeed is a big let down in season 2, almost no plot development, about 90%of the season so far is land on a planet defeat the big baddy go for the next planet. The only episode different this time was the last one, after the big baddy defeat 5 minutes of plot development where it is clear it will lead to the same finale meta plot wise than season 1.
Too bad it really started off well in season 1, but season 2 is a season 1 rinse and repeat with half the plot!

        • Also HBO+ is coming next year over here, makes more sense to cancel disney + and going for HBO now as soon as it hits.

        • It’s a problem with many of the made for TV series spanning multiple seasons. They need to have an interesting overarching plot line, a seasonal arch, and subplots that get resolved in one or two episodes. The hard part is balancing all of these. The Mandalorian did a pretty good job with that in the first season, but the seasonal arch in the second season is pretty weak, and it gets kind of lost in the subplots. If they follow the pattern of many TV series, next season they’ll focus on the over

How quickly the "fans" turned on the Mandalorian.

There's no way they could satisfy you like you, which is why they don't try.

So I had watched some of the Mandalorian and found it engaging, but lost interest after a while.

My thought was they had a solid enough concept to make an interesting movie, but it's not really enough to support a series. As a result things are a bit repetitive and padded.

This was merely my personal opinion, but I can see their point.

    • The most exciting aspect of her character was that she carried a light saber.

It's funny that in trying to be clever, you wrote just about the wrongest statement it was possible to write.

Right of the bat, she carries TWO lightsabers. So you didn't even get that far without tripping over your own lack of understanding.

At a deeper level, the most exciting aspect of her character was she chose to leave the Jedi order before it was cool. She was framed and rather than the Jedi backing her up based on her perfo

Actually two lightsabres. And she uses an unusual backward facing grip.

Her live action debut was a bit meh but she is an interesting character. Trained as a Jedi but left after they treated her badly. Padawan of Anakin.

It all depends what the story is like, she is a bit hard to fit into the canon... Although her being a background player does make sense for a Jedi, all the others who know who survived Order 66 similarly went into semi-hiding.

After they turned Mandalorian into one giant merch advertising, I can only think what they would do here. Baby hutt would probably top this off.
    • After they turned Mandalorian into one giant merch advertising

That is true but look at why - it's not like Disney pushed that with the release of the first show, it was because of MASSIVE demand by fans for Mandalorian/Baby Yoda merch.

And the viewing numbers back up that demand. Mandalorian toys are still incredibly popular even with there being so many things on offer, because there are just so many people that really like that show - even a lot of people who were not really that into Star Wars before.

        .

Well, Disney needed the Mech sales. The latest trilogy had some really unsalable critters. Like who wanted a Rose Tico action figure?

What do you mean "turned"? That's what it always was, and what Star Wars has been since the 80s.

Now all they have to do is treat the actors similarly to how they engaged Alan Dean Foster in a "trade dispute" [slashdot.org] and everything should work out great.

The summary kind of buried this point, but there are 10 new shows (well 9 TV and a movie) coming out, and all of them look pretty good for various reasons:

The Acolyte is set near the end of the High Republic, and looks to deal with the rise of the Sith. It's a "mystery thriller" so it sounds promising and being set there means possible crossover from the massive High Republic line of books being launched at the start of 2021.

The Obi-Wan series is a limited series that shows Obi-Wan (with Ewan McGregor in that role) about ten years after Revenge of the Sith.

Rangers of the New Republic we don't know much about, but Filoni is directing so based on the Mandalorian it has a high probability of being really good, and probably more about Star Wars ground combat which is not well explored in Live Action, but usually ends up being pretty cool.

Ahsoka covers a character a lot of people loved from Clone Wars and Rebels, and looks like it will probably be something of a carry over from Rebels, only live action...

Lando will probably be a lot of fun, based on Solo, I really hope they can get Glover to play Lando again as he was great.

Andor looks to be awesome from the trailer and the concept, basically pre-rogue one spy thriller with Cassian Andor (from Rogue One).

Bad Batch is an animated show following a misfit group of clones directly after Order 66 comes down.

A Droid Story has animated R2-D2 and C-3PO working with some new droid on a mission... this one is possibly the most up in the air as to possible quality but Star Wars has done a pretty good job delivering droids that are fun and interesting.

Also for fans of The Animatrix, Star Wars Visions is doing the same thing with a number of short Anime takes on the Star Wars world. I think some of the best Star Wars has been done by people let loose with some creative vision to present Star Wars in a unique way, so I'm pretty excited for that one.

The movie is Rogue Squadron, all about a rebel X-Wing squadron and based on some solid source material that a lot of people love.

Too many! It's hard to keep up. Argh. :(

    • by AmiMoJo ( 196126 )

Looking forward to Rogue Squadron. Patty Jenkins directing, apparently she has wanted to make a pilot movie for a long time.

      • Yes I am really looking forward to that one and on Twitter she got a nod form the original author, as well as making a promise to stay true to the story that was there!

    • by AmiMoJo ( 196126 )

As well as Star Wars they are making

      - Another Indiana Jones movie, with Harrison Ford

      - Black Panther sequel without Black Panther

      - A 4th Thor movie, actually looking forward to that

      - Captain Marvel 2

      - Loki TV series

Oh yeah and at least 3 Avatar sequels are still due, starting 2022.

      • I'm not really into Marvel stuff myself, so most of that was kind of lost on me... although by "not being into Marvel" I mean I have watched just about all of the Marvel movies and shows but just don't re-watch or think about them much.. :-)

That said the Loki series looked really good and I think I'll even enjoy that one.

I am not sure Lando will work out. For whatever reason they have not been able to re-capture the whole Solo personality. I mean for god sakes, Opie? They put that chick-flick piece of bantha droppings in charge of Solo. And based on that movie, they really screwed the backstory of Lando pretty badly. Instead of Lando being another smuggler/raider sort of personality, they turned him into a pool shark hanging out in pool halls looking to swindle people. Its not substance enough to build an entire series arou

      • Instead of Lando being another smuggler/raider sort of personality, they turned him into a pool shark hanging out in pool halls looking to swindle people.

I thought it was pretty vague just what he was doing Solo, I expect that the Lando show will flesh that out lots better into more directions like smuggling and heists...

  • Slashvertisement. Disney sucks.
    • They took tags away because we used them correctly, and tagged things accurately. That's not what they were there for, apparently. We were only supposed to use them to worship the "editors". You know, the ones who can't be arsed to even think about checking for dupes, and have no idea what they posted last week.

I still think at least some of the supposed editors are just shitty bots. Certainly they could all be replaced with simple shell scripts.

  • This is the series we need, to educate people and youngsters about the reality of the present real universe, and not series about a fictional future one (which, if not careful, we will never survive to achieve).

The more I hear about all the plans for expansion, mega-sub-franchises, etc, the more I realise that the slider between "want to tell a good story" and "want to make $$$" goes full on to the right. Mandalorian S1 got appreciated because it did a few things differently: No holier-than-though characters, the baby Yoda that everybody fawn over apparently, the length of the episodes, etc, while maintaining super high production values.

Now we see that it's good while it lasted, and there's going to be an array of look-alike series. Whatever risk they introduced in the first season, paid off, and now they're back into what they always do: more of the same, but worse in terms of creativity.

    • It's going to take another year until then. At the speed everything is going at the moment who knows how long it will really take. Maybe the virus will mutant again and turn us all into zombies... I'll be glad if we make it past winter. I'm really not concerned about this bit of news. It's going to be an entire year until then.

      • It's nothing of concern really, just a very loud "meh" ... We'll make it past winter, as the economy has not visibly crumbled yet. Later on, we'll see

  • A comedy skit nailed this Disney over-doing it with monetizing every character in the Star Wars world [youtube.com] by Disney a few years ago.

My son was a big Clone Wars and Rebels fan, I didn’t really watch most of the animated stuff, and he hated Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka. Curious as to other’s opinions. Actually, I think it was the fact that the voice didn’t match. Every time she talked he said something about it. Usually use https://torrentsites.com/ [torrentsites.com] to watch movies
