Disney Adds Disney+ And ESPN+ To Hulu + Live TV, Raises Bundle Monthly Price By $5 (deadline.com) 29

Softening the blow of a monthly price hike, Disney is offering subscribers to Hulu's live TV service access to Disney+ and ESPN+ at no extra charge. From a report: Beginning on December 21, the Hulu + Live TV package will cost $5 more each month. It will go up to $70 with the ad-supported tier of Hulu's on-demand service and $76 with the ad-free Hulu. Notifications to subscribers have just gone out this morning. The new bundle builds on success the company has had with its combined offering of Disney+, ESPN+ and on-demand Hulu. That trio was announced in mid-2019, just before the record-setting launch of Disney+ and has helped ESPN+ and Hulu to continue consistent growth.

  • this crap is starting to get really expensive. Or maybe I'm just old, but jeez $76 is pretty high.
    • No, that's insane.

It's less insane at +$5 including Disney and ESPN, but still insane.

To me it's more insane at +5$ including Disney and ESPN, because I want to avoid those.
But $70 for ad-infested streaming - now that's really insane.

After looking like a decent way to jettison the cable TV packages that charge you boatloads of money for channels you never watch, these streaming services are rapidly turning into ... streaming services that charge you boatloads of money for channels you never watch. Be careful what you wish for....
    • I started on DirecTV Now over-the-top cable package for around $65 a few years ago and ditched it when it got to $85

I switched to Sling Blue plus the DVR and a channel bundle of networks I wanted. I am now down to $46/mo and have all the channels that I wanted.

Sling has the closest thing to a la carte out of all the OTT providers out there.

I use the AirTV 2 device + external antenna to get all my locals for free OTA. The device integrates seamlessly into the Sling App.

No thanks. I remember the cable TV decades. I'll stick with ala carte.

I guess if one were into spectating sports, this bundle might make sense, but that ain't me or anyone in my household. The free time I'm willing to spend passively watching a screen is more than covered by a single streaming service + Youtube. For the last two years, we've switched to different service as the dead of winter sets in each year (ie. now), and haven't felt a lack of content since.

It's no extra charge, but the bundle price is going up $5?

What if one doesn't care about Disney or (especially) ESPN -- which Disney always wants to include with any Disney bundle, just ask any cable company.

Yes, the price is going up $5 a month. BUT, they are sweetening the deal by giving you MORE useless bullshit that you don't want. This is how all businesses are run these days. Nothing but scams and constantly searching for new ways to fuck the customer.

The only way to win is to not play the game. Stop giving them your money.

Here's a better question. What if one cared enough about Disney Plus to pay for three years upfront? My sister did (God knows why). They also receive Hulu + Live TV. So now they're paying for Disney Plus twice? Will Disney let them cancel? Give them some kind of discount? My guess is no.

  • I have the "ads disabled" box checked.
Streaming is the new cable, nobody should be shocked by this.
  • comcast, dish, directv, other need MFN demand that ESPN+ live games be added to liner tv packages.

the old CSN philly rules are gone so they can demand to be able to have ESPN+ as an live tv channel.

Trey Parker and Matt Stone depicted Disney in "South Park" for what it is and it's still the best avatar for the scumbag mouse. [youtube.com]

  • Enough of the + bullshit and confusion.

People are getting confused, and angry.

How about we have one service for all. Maybe call it Omni.

    Of course, instead of that, we will get "Omni but not really omni". Bleh. X-{

  • Both plans will increase by $5 per month, the company says. That means the Hulu + Live TV Ad-Supported plan will now be $69.99 per month instead of $64.99 per month, while the Hulu + Live TV No Ads plan will now be $75.99 per month, instead of $70.99 per month.
